Have you smelled the oil? does it smell like diesel? If your truck is making oil, then you have a bad injector or more leaking fuel past the piston(s) and into the oil. Does your oil analysis show contamination of oil by fuel?

Default Just left the dealer for same problem

Had my first oil change at 2900 miles on 8/25/08 - oil level was above the plastic on the dipstick. $101.00.
Returned to the dealer today with rising oil level issue with 2472 miles since the first oil change. Oil was almost to the top of the plastic again.
The service manager came out and said the mechanic said i had diesel in the oil, he could smell it. Asked if I had several hours to wait because I had a bad injector and they needed to test them to locate the bad one - they do not stock them and can only order three at a time(???).
Service manager came back out about 10 min. later with a "StarOnline Search Result" Case Number K44264524 stating:

Vehicle issue------------------
__________________________________________________ ____________
Engine oil level is high or may show overfull.; Engine oil may have recently been changed. the customer may state the "Oil Change Required" message comes on too soon / too short of an interval. Engine oil analysys may show above 5% fuel in oil dilution.

System or component-----------
__________________________________________________ _____________
Oil Level Too High: Customer Concern (No DTCs); Engine Oil

Recommendation----------------
__________________________________________________ ______________
*Be Aware*. The closed-crankcase ventilation system on the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel engine retains oil much longer than on previous 5.9L engines. Remove the engine oil fill cap while draining the engine oil to allow the CCV filter to drain. If theengine is only allowed to drain for a short time, then refilled with engine oil, the crankcase may be overfilled. The "Oil Change Required" message displayed on the EVIC is sent over the vehicle BUS system from the ECM. The message is requested when the ECM caluulates there is excessive (above 5%) fuel in the engine oil dilution. This calculation is derived from engine idle time and the amount of time the engine is performing an "active" exhaust regeneration. During these operating conditions, a small amout of fuel will get into the engine oil. This is normal operation of the engine.
Modification Date-----------------

__________________________________________________ ____________

B.S. At least they did not charge me for the oil change. Told me to watch the level for the next 3000 miles and bring it back if the oil level continues to rise.
I'm sure I will be returning to the dealer. May as well go ahead and make my appointment in advance!

2008 6.7L SLT 4x4 all stock

Default Making oil

I am told that it is caused by the REGENERATION system. That increases the fuel flow to the cyclinders so that raw unburnt fuel will reach the catalitic convertor and partical filter to increase the operating temp of the catalist to burn off the soot and partical built up in the emmision system.
I spoke to the Cummins representative in Houston Texas at the Cummins engine factory here, and he told me that this was caused by the REGENERATION system installed by Dodge. He also informed me the the Cummins Corp. is not responsible or libale for this occurrence.
The Cummins number is 1-800-474-7421 or 1-713-679-2220
Give them a call
