Holly Fuel somthing or other
i noticed today that my 2005, ctd 2500 was leaking diesel from cyllinder-ish shaped part mounted on the left frame rail just under the drivers door. I don't know what this part is, I can't find it in my chilton guide. the part has a plate with 4 bolts on the bottom and 1 hose going in and 1 hose going out, and it has the Holly logo all over it.
i thought it was a fuel pump or heater or somthing, but i read the pump was inside the tank in the 05's.
anyways can anyone tell me what this part might be? I need to fix this leak, but i am far from a mechanic.

It sounds like you have a Holly Blue fuel pump. Does it make noise when you turn the key on? I assume you are not the original owner of the truck? I don't have personal experience with this pump. Can you clean it up and see if the leak is coming from one of the hose connections? Maybe as simple as tightening the connections, if not, maybe you could contact the manufacturer and see if there is a warranty on it?
yes it makes noise when i put the key in. and no i am not the original owner. I am afraid if i take it off to clean it it will dump my fuel!! can you comment on this? and maybe tell me what it is used for.

The origional owner replaced the factory lift pump in the tank with the holley blue pump. Probably after the one in the tank crapped out. The purpose of the pump is to get the fuel to the high pressure pump under the hood.
Since I own a diesel shop I have seen trucks come in with Holley Blues on them........they are usually towed in. The pump from my experiance will fail over time even if you do get the leaks fixed. There is a couple of aftermarket pumps that have proven themsleves over time. Now one has to wonder what else was done to the truck.
some thoughts if you decide to try to clean it.. first its easy.. second try to have less that 1/4 tank third park with the nose up hill..at least this might help keep the fuel from leaking out if it does leak out its not that fast.. I just installed a Holly Blue pump today and tomorrow I have to adjust the pressure..I think the pressure control valve is stuck..I'm getting over 30psi.. do you have a fuel pressure gauge..no..get one.. -dkenny

I installed the Holley Blue pump on my truck also, I ran it in line with my stock pump and initially had problems with it starting hard due to too much fuel pressure. I installed the regulator that came with it (Holley pn 12-803) and that took care of the problem which is what you may have to do if you're having too much pressure. I currently am at 19 psi at idle and it drops to 9 psi WOT.
if you run a holley pump inline with stock pump you will have hard starting issues if you power the holley off the stock pump. To wire up a pump in line, you need to run the holley pump off a relay and an oil pressure sensor.
This will allow the stock pump to operate normal during start-up, but once the engine has started and oil pressure rises, the holley will kick on to give you the desired pressure.
If you wire the relay directly off the stock pump, both pumps will run during start up and creates too much pressure for the VP44 and thus you will have hard starting issues.
If you're going to by pass the stock lift pump, then you should wire up the holley off a relay that is triggered by the stock wiring harness. Do not just run the holley off the stock wiring as this can sometimes screw up the ecm by pulling too much voltage/amps... I'm working on a poor man's FASS system and will be doing a DIY shortly!
