Default 285/70R/17 tires

All,

Where can I get the cheapest tires? I don't need the $1,200 Nitto's and am trying to keep the tire cost below $600.

I would try one of your local wholesale clubs. My local BJ's has the bfg rugged trails for 160 a tire. Thats 640$

if your looking for load range E tires, good luck... if not, you can get the Toyo Open Country A/T (which kick butt!) or the Bridgestone A/T Revo's for approx the same price... both are available in a Load Range E, but for about $200 each.... Both should be killer tires, the Toyo's I have experience with on the last truck...
This info is for the 265's (dunno if you CAN get a E 285), but shouldn't be much different for the 285's anyway...

Hope that helps...

Do the 285's significantly afect the speedo or gas mileage?

I'm guessing they do affect the speedo a little. I have contacted many tire dealers around where I live, (Wilmington, NC) and the price varies as much as $100 for the same tires! I will definately have to do research before I buy...

They barely affect the speedo you won't really notice. When I bought my truck it had 285 hankook mt's on it and I dropped them down to the 265 rugged trails because my 285's were only "D" rated and were to squishy for me. I got about a mpg or so better with the 265's but I belive it was just because the rolling resistance on the MT's sucked. If you get an all terrain 285 it really won't affect it much, maybe even get a little better milage on the highway due to slightly lower rpms.
