Default 4WD indicator light

Hey guys, I've searched around trying to find an answer to this one... 2005 RAM 2500 4wd Cummins 52Kmi. Two symptoms related to a problem with the tranny or sensors... first, the 4WD indicator light on the dash has stopped working, second, it sometimes will not go into 4H... I took it to the dealer who told me that they checked it out, there were no codes and there was nothing wrong, that there is no 4WD light in the dash for these trucks. Before leaving I asked the mechanic to get in and try putting it in and out of 4H a couple of times. It wouldn't do it for him and he was embarassed but said there was not enough time to bring it back in but I could bring it back next week and not have to pay another $96 diagnostic fee....

So before I go back I was hoping to find out if anyone here may have had a similar problem and if there is in fact a 4WD light that goes on when you put it in 4WD (or am I crazy thinking I have seen one every time I've put it in 4WD over the past three years) ... Thank you very much for any info!

tn diesel summed it up. full of chit. I'd find a new dealer to work with. You told them it wouldn't go into 4 hi and they stopped when they pluged it into a scan tool no codes so everything must be fine.

You have the electric shift on the dash? If so, those have a reputation for not going in right away...

And if my dealer told me there was no light for 4WD, if I HAD a dealer (I rarely take my truck in, maybe twice since I bought it) Id go to another dealer...

Yeah they seem to be full of chit... you guys are right, there is an indicator light. I think the switch that controls it is on the bell housing somewhere. This is not the electronic on-dash transmission, just the regular one.

I had the same problem in my (gasp) 01 1500... My 01 (gasp) had the mechanical lever for the transfer case, there was a vacuum switch for the light in the dash located by the mechanical lever on the transfer case, if there is no vacuum supplied to the switch there will be no 4x4, it also controls the axle disconnect. but a dealer claiming there is no light should not be fixing 4x4 trucks let alone cars. I would never go back there and probably run an add it the local newspaper calling them out

I have an 05 2500 and there deffienetly is a 4x4 light on the dash, that mechanic doesn't know what he's talking about. I would take it to a different dealer.

im have similar trouble i believe with my 98 ram 1500 automatic with the 5.2
im not sure if there are dash lights for the 4x4 or not according to the parts store theres a vacum swith that controls the lights that mounts on the front diff next to the shift motor its brand new and still no dash lights that i can see also i replaced the transfer case switch because my 4x4 wasnt engaging i need a way to test it in the driveway so i dont run the risk of getting stuck somewhere lol i heard also that the vaccum that controls the lights also is tied in with the abs is this true or false cuz i dont need any more problems i just want 4x4 to work and the light to be on to tell me what range im in if there is a light for this year any info will be apreicated thank you

I have an '06 3500 Laramie Quad with the electric 4x4 shift system. A while back, the "LOCK" dash light stopped working. It used to light up "4 Wheel Lock" and "4 Wheel Low" The transfer case seems to be going into 4 wheel and 4 wheel low properly. I would like to know if the absence of the "LOCK" light is something to be dealt with and what could cause this condition. Thanks.
