Default Broken Tensioner Pulley Thread

I was hoping that the Parts/Service member could give me his view on the recent Broken tensioner pulley failure, that I recently posted here. Should I pursue this with the Canadian complaint line, even though I have been told that this part is not covered under the power-train or engine warranty. In your opinion was the bill excessive. Would this part be warrantied in the USA.

Default More Broken Pullies, Tensioners, etc..

I have a 2000 dodge diesel with 110,000 miles, and my serpentine belt broke. Apparently this was due to failure of a pully bearing, which failed and took out the idler pulley, tension pulley and bracket, and several other pullies, including some module as well.
I was told by my mechanic I was lucky, that this type of failure, which happens often, usally takes out the radiator, AC and trans lines.
Now I am faced with an $1800 bill.
Does this type of failuer sound normal?
What can I do to prevent this?
It gave me now warning.
