Default Transmission or Drive Shaft problem??

During work Friday afternoon, I put my truck in reverse and heard a squeaking...as I went faster, so did the squeaking. (Not trying to be funny, but it sounded like a squeaky bed during sex). I was thinking that maybe it was my drive shaft b/c that appears to be where the noise is coming from....but it only makes the noise in reverse, so if it were the drive shaft, wouldn't it do it while in Drive also? So i'm wondering if this could be a transmission problem related to the reverse gear. i'm not at all a mechanic, so any input would be great.

today i developed more weird sounds. wtf is going on with this thing? for a brief while, my breaks would make a loud clicking sound right before coming to a stop. now, it seems that the squeak while in reverse is gone, but when i shift from park to drive, it makes a different squeak during take off. i have no idea what is going on with this thing or why it is developing these noises all of a sudden. it's completely stock and i put 85% of my miles on the highway. the only thing that is weird is that these noises didn't start until a couple days ago and today. I pulled 2 of our fully loaded work trailers (4-5k lb.) for 75 mins. each on Thursday and I briefly pulled a loaded dump trailer today (4-5k lb.). any thoughts? im putting in 60 hour weeks right now and I have to have my truck for work every day, so i have had no time to get it in to the shop. it only has 55k miles on it so it is still under warranty.

well, the dealership said that my front u-joints are "completely shot" and i need a new steering pitman or something. $1500 to fix it. however, i have had absolutely no problems with the steering. it's going to a local mechanic tomorrow for a 2nd opinion. the truck has also started to make a clicking sound (sounds like when you have a rock or nail stuck in your tire) when I accelerate from about 15mph-25mph. it was also making the same clicking sound right before the truck would come to a complete stop. anyone ever experience anything similar to this?

Sounds like your u-joints in your driveshaft or axleshaft. They squeak when they are starting to go and then click when they are getting really bad.

Just lift a wheel on either axle and try to turn an part of the driveline.

If anything looks like this, they are SHOT.

I'm having the same squeaking noise while in reverse on my 04 Dakota 4.7L. And when I cut the wheel in reverse sounds like my front tire in rubbing on something. Anyone know what this could be?

check your u-joints first. can also have someone stand outside your rig and see if they can determine exactly where the noise is coming from.
