I am about to get 1999 ram 2500 with a cummins, 24 vlave. It has been quite some time since i owned a diesel. Are any fuel, oil, tran additives important or just "nice".

Thanks

I don't think oil additives are really necessary as all the brand name oils are very good.
I think fuel additives are a very good idea though. one thing that needs to be addressed is fuel lubricity as the fuel is the lubricant for the injector pump and injectors.
There are many available and most are good but try to avoid the ones with a lot of alcohol. You don't need an all in one with anti gel in the summer for instance. (alcohol is a popular anti gel additive but reduces lubrication.) I like Power Service, Stanadyne. or if you simply want extra lubrication Lucas upper cylinder lube or TCW3 two stroke oil is a cheep additive.

I use the Walmart brand TCW-3 two cycle oil. 3rd gen trucks like it at 200:1 (.64 oz / gallon), 2nd gen trucks prefer 128:1 (1 once / gallon).
