6.7 fuel in oil
Hello,
I have an '08 2500 Ram, 6.7 CTD, G56 manual, which I bought new. After 1400 miles, I noticed that the oil level was rising. I had an analysis done that showed 7.2% diesel in the engine oil. The dealer said that this was normal, since the computer showed that this truick was idled quite a bit. Some of this was by me in addition to the truck sitting on the dealers lot for almost a year. Since then I idled the truck as little as possible. I do make some short trips and I would guess that there were some unfinished regenerations that started all over again the next time I ran the truck. At 4200 miles the change oil light comes on. I change the oil and save a sample that I just had analyzed. This time the analysis showed 7.1% diesel in the oil. This is about the same level as before but at 2800 miles between changes instead of the 1400 miles for the first change.
What I am asking is;
Has this happened to anyone else out there?
What is a safe percentage of diesel in the oil?
Does this go away once the truck is broken in?
Is there any hazard in starting the truck and driving it without any warmup (I baby it until it starts to show some temperature on the gage)?
Thanks for all of your responses.

Does it show on the dip stick that you are making oil, and i go about 5000 miles on a oil change, and after i see 100 degrees i drive the truck and not baby it .
if you are see more oil on the dip stick possible injector leaking down after you shut it off,

I can see where I am gaining oil on the dip stick. After the first 1400 miles, it was past the plastic portion and on to the small steel cable portion of the dip stick. At the 4200 mile mark, it was higher than what it was right after it was changed, but not as high as at the 1400 mile mark. I did get a new flash, that the dealer indicated was recommended by Dodge, just before the last oil change. Since the last oil change, I took a trip of approximately 800 miles pulling a 6000 lb. travel trailer, so some of the miles on this change will be during conditions where it could passively regenerate. I will probably change the oil at 7200 miles and have it anayzed again.
By the way, I always check my oil in my garage (same location) before it is run so that it has many hours to run down from the cylinder head, etc.

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I own a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L and had an oil analysis done on it my first oil change (12,700 miles). I wanted to push 15,000 miles as indicated by the manual but decided not to. This is what Blackstone came back with in regards to the physical properties of my oil :
First number are my values. Numbers in parenthesis are universal averages as indicated by Blackstone :
Fuel % : <0.5 (<2.0)
Antifreeze % : 0.0(0)
Water % : 0.0(0.0)
Insolubles % : 0.5(<0.7)

7% fuel in the oil IS NOT normal.
When you start the truck are you seeing any white smoke?
Any white smoke at idle?
How is the idle? Smooth, rough, any vibration?
Have the dealer hook it up to the StarScan do a cylinder contribution test. If any of the cylinders is significantly lower than the others, more than likely that's the problem.

Iwould take and get it checked at a cummins dealer , they can test leakage on injector leakage,
