as far as boost goes... if you are getting close to 50psi you will be changing a head gasket real soon, but anything under 45psi, the HG should be fine, and if you are on a stock turbo, dont go over about 35psi, beacuse your turbo gets out of its map range and will build an enomous ammount of heat. and try to keep egt;s down under 1,300 if your probe is in the exhaust manifold, but if it is after the turbo, in the exhaust pipe, i wouldnt go over about 1,000

tski,

Could you please post your symptoms again or let me know the title of your previous thread? I am having the same problem and want to compare my symptoms to yours, etc. You can see my own thread on the subject in this Cummins section.

Thanks!

hey dragon:

my last thread was sluggish 01 ctd... need help. its on page 4 in this fourm. my symptoms were low power, no smoke except for start up, poor fuel milage. it really didn't have much tourque either. it took forever to get up to speed and anything above 60mph it didnt maintain speed very well unless my juice w/ attitude was turned up to like level 3 or 4. runnin down the interstate i had to keep it on level 5 to maintain speed. the sensor runs about 220 bucks. i had to go through a dealership and they told me the manufactuer had changed so you will need a pigtail for the new sensor to plug into the exsisting loom. it runs about 50 bucks i think.

Thanks for the info, tski. I don't have many HP mods as my vehicle is used for work hauling, etc, but my symptoms are amazingly similar to what you wrote. Was the sensor so loose that you were losing boost pressure? I assume your sensor is also located in your intake manifold (I've got a 1998.5 24v). On my truck you can hear the turbo trying to spool up, but it just doesn't get there. I figure there has to be a leak somewhere or the wastegate or actuator is malfunctioning.

the plastic where the wires plug in was loose where it meets the brass part of the sensor. i took it apart and the circutry was burnt like it got moisture in it. i thought mine might be a wastegate too but it was more expensive than the sensor. it only took me a few minutes to replace too. i took the mount where the fuel filter is off and its easy to get too. it should be right behind it.

Great! Thanks tski!

That is going to be the first thing I check when I get back to my yard. Thought I'd be able to go there today, but it's a no go. Too many things to do for my 4 YO daughter's B-day. That definitely takes priority!
