Knocking when you let out the clutch
Looking at buying a 2005 Cummins 5.9 with a 6 speed manual. I started it up drove it forwards and backwards, took it out of gear and let it idle and there was a knocking sound, i pushed the clutch in and the sound went away, let out the clutch it came back. They said they are gonna look into it... just curious if anyone knew what this could be?? Just so i can make sure they get it fixed properly.
Thanks

More likely either the throw out bearing is shot or it has a dual mass flywheel and the springs are shot.
Which transmission does it have? G56 or NV5600?
On the G56, reverse is left and down.
On the NV5600, reverse is right and up.
The G56 has the POS dual mass flywheel.

just to give you a general consensus, i agree that it sounds like the throwout bearing, as long as the knocking sound you're talking about sounds kind of like a rattle. try this...go up a hill in 2nd gear or so, then let the RPMs bottom out without stalling, then hammer down. if you hear the rattle in that scenario its definitely throwout bearing.
