brake upgrades
Has anyone done a dual piston caliper swap? i.e. 00-up(i think) to 99-older
I have a 99 3500 4x4 w/ single piston calipers. Will dual piston calipers from a 00 4x4 bolt on? Are the pads the same?? Is there any noticeable difference???

Are you talking the whole brake system?
The 2nd Gen trucks used Dana axles, the 3rd Gen's use AAM's.
The brakes won't bolt up.
The rotors on the 2nd Gen's were press fit the wheel bearing / hub, they're not floating rotors like on the 3rd Gen's.
I think you'd be better off just upgrading the rotors and pads.

I only want to replace the front calipers. I have one piston that keeps freezing up and needs to be replaced/rebuilt...so why not upgrade...
From what I've seen, it looks like the 00-02(late 2nd gen) trucks have dual or twin piston calipers on the front axle. I want to know if they are interchangeable with older models (bolt on).
Its almost time for me to replace the front rotors too. I've had EGR slotted rotors (WORLD OF DIFFERENCE OVER STOCK!) on there now for 8 or 9 nine years and they are now cut a hair below min. spec.
Anybody have other recommendations?
Are EBC brakes all they're hyped up to be?

00 and up are different from 99 and earlier...I talked to the parts guy at the local dealer and asked the same question....I'm looking to upgrade my brakes soon as well, had thought about going the route of the EBC rotors and pads but not sure if there all their hyped up to be...need something with some good grip to stop the heavy loads and whatnot.....anyone heard of royal rotors? theres a set of rotors with pads on ebay for like $120 shipped lol....here's the link

if you want to up grade i think you are going to need to change the knuckles, as the calipers bolt up differently (going off memory here so could be wrong), and also if you want to go that rout, i believe the 3rd gen knuckles will also bolt up, and you get even bigger brakes, but you have to go to 17 inch wheel or larger, a nother good upgrade for these 2nd gen trucks is to replace the rear wheel cylinder with napa part #37337, it is a larger cylinder there for=more brake power, and one other thing, if you have the load sencing proportioning valve over the rear axle, either remove it or dissconnect it and tie the lever back
