First, I'm not impressed with the new 6.7, 2nd, I don't know a lot abought ctd, third, thier seems to a strong opion that the 5.9 was and still is the better engine than than the 6.7.
I know a good friend who now owns a a quad cab 3500 with the 6.7 and the 6sp, he has been a long term CTD owner, his last truck was a 5.9 with the six speed, and , he hates the performance of the new 6.7.
from what is dodge dealer has told him, the 6.7 needs a break in time of 40,000 km, his truck has 14,000 km on it now and thiers no issues with towing, but his truck dosnet have the getty up of the 5.9.
speaking from expierance, his old 5.9 6sp blasted away my 2500 hemi with a 6sp, I have no problems keeping up with his 09 2500, 6sp in my truck.
I'm not debating the CTD ability to tow, just woundering if thier is a break in point with the new 6.7

Break-in...........there really is no break in period on it.
Best way to break it in is to throw the trailer behind it and go.
Stock vs stock, it'll perform just as well as a 5.9. Mileage won't be nearly as good, but power and towing wise, they're nearly identical, with the 6.7 being a little stronger.
One vs the other.......unless the 5.9 was stock and they were both identical trucks (gearing, cabs, drivetrain, mods, etc) it would difficult to explain the drastic difference in performance.
Now, delete the DPF and the EGR and toss a Smarty or XRT on it and he'll be showing you tail lights in a heartbeat.....and his mileage would jump up to the 18 - 20 MPG range.
