Default Clunk

The other day I was stopping at a stop light and when my transmission downshifted (auto) into first gear at like ten or fifteen miles an hour my truck made a weird kinda clunk and since it's becoming more frequent. I'm pretty sure it's just a drive shaft needing to be maintained. Does this sound like the culprit to you fellas? I know where the grease fitting is on the front driveshaft but is it similar on the rear? Thanks

More than likely it's just driveline lash.

How many miles on the truck and have you serviced the t-case or the front drive shaft?

It's just getting ready to turn 130,000. I have only had it about six months so I don't know the last time the drive lines have been serviced or not. I looked on your site and seen how you did the front drive line but was curious if the back has the same grease zirk. Might as well do them all while I'm at it.

There is no grease zirks on the rear shaft unless someone install aftermarket u-joints that had them.

Will I even have the same grease fitting on the front shaft like yours in your diy? I know in 04 they didn't make the front u joints greasable is it the same with the drive shafts?

The grease fitting is the same on the front shaft.

The other things you can do that helps with a bit of the clunk is actually remove the drive shafts, split the front shaft apart and grease the splines on the slip shaft, pull the rear shaft and grease the splines on the slip yoke.

Any other clunk you hear is just lash at the t-case and the diffs.

There is a lot of slop in them, BUT you may want to check all your fluids to make sure they're not low.

Ya I am planning on splitting my front shaft and doing what you did on yours. I just wasn't sure if it would have that same grease needle fitting or if they didn't put it in there. Thanks again bud.

Yeah, the grease fitting is up on the joint.

If you're gonan pull the shaft, it's easier to do the joint with the shaft on the table.
