Smile 02 Ram diesel no power at first

Hi. I have an 02 Dodge Diesel. When I start it it's fine but when I start to go I can only go about 20mph until it's warmed up a bit......maybe a mile or so then it's fine.

I've tried shifting gears and sometimes that works to throw it into low and work my way up. (it's an automatic).

Any suggestions if it's a sensor, tranny, etc would be deeply appreciated.....thanks!

I am having the same problem on my 2001. Can it be the cam sensor?

Thanks

Mike

You guys need to check your fuel pressure.. It should be around 15 - 16psi key on engine off and above 10 psi at idle.. Some will say 7 psi. if it is at 7 psi I would change your fuel filter see what the pressure is at... if it don't change then replace lift pump...
Lift pumps provide Fuel to the Vp 44 injection pump. Once the lift pump goes you have a few miles of driving till the Vp44 pump goes... then you will have a code.
Do you guys have any codes.

I have an injector timing fault code. I believe it is P0216. I was told it
might be the injector pump, but more likely the cam sensor. I have a new, re-designed lift pump and a new fuel filter. I an getting 18 psi of fuel pressure. I can shut the truck off and restart it and have full power. Thanks guys!

Not likely a cam sensor.

If the cam sensor goes, the truck will likely not start. If it does it'll sound like and old steam engine.

It'll be blowing white smoke like a steam engine also.

I don't have the codes in front of me right now, I'll check it this evening.

Nope, don't have any codes. If I shut the truck off and turn it back on it usually is fine. I had the fuel filter changed about a year or more ago.

P0216 is vp death code, is definitely NOT your cam....
P0216 Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure
Time for a new VP...just because you've got a new lift pump now, doesn't mean the old one didn't kill your VP.
