You are checking the pressure between the filter and injection pump. Typically you remove one of the "banjo bolts" and replace it with the modified bolt with the tapped hole for a fitting. This site may help. http://www.mwfi.com/vp44_Installation_info.htm
The pressure in the rail is in the 3000psi range. Stay away from it.

The pressure at the common rail is a lot higher than that.

At idle you're at approx 6800 psi.

On a stock truck, you'll see 20,000 psi under throttle.

At 24,200 psi, the stock relief valve opens.

At 28,000 psi is where you start having problems....that's where you start cracking injector bodies and nozzles.

thats high pressure! and I'm getting smarter every day on this thread. Thanks to all who replied. No beer icon on this forum so I'll just give everyone
