Default need new engine ?

I have a 2005 dodge 2500 truck with the cummins diesel. I have 225.000 miles on it. I came to find out that at my last oil change they only put in 6qts and not the required 12qts. Needles to say I have after a few thousand miles a knock in my engine... Any advice on where to start looking for a rebuild engine? or can these engines be repaired ? Any hints are welcome and highly appreciated... thanks
Mike

Who is "they"? Do you have a reciept or work order stating that "they" only put in 6qts?
"They" should be held at least partly responsible for the cost of the repair.
Generally you can rebuild it, depending on the damage.

definatly agree with racer9 whoever changed the oil should be responsible for repairs.

If after having service done to your CTD you failed to check the oil level and drove your truck until you heard a knock. Engine cooked!

Appears the problem is the nut holding the steering wheel of this truck!

Have the oil sampled. It is probably not 15W40 either.
You should be able to claim against them for repairs or try to.
