Default tie rod /pitman boot or bushing

hi guys,

So I bought this 2006 dodge ram 2500 diesel 4x4 and noticed this torn up bushing or boot, I will attach a photo hopefully it will work. anyway I am dropping it off tomorrow for two repairs one of which being this one. At first inquiry the parts guy said this may not be serviceable due to some changes made after 2006 and I may indeed need all or the linkage parts. Anyone had to replace just the boot or bushing, whichever it may be? and could give me some info...

Mine looks exactly the same. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it but I'm interested to hear what the consensus is.

You can buy just that section of the drag link seperately.

Also, there is an open recall on the 3rd Gen trucks due to the steering linkage.

Send me your VIN and current mileage and I can see it applies to your truck and I can look up the part number for the high side of the drag link.

IIRC, it's not an expensive part.

Guys,

Here's the part and part number that you're looking for.

It's the upper end of the drag link w/ the tie rod end.

If you need one, let me know and we'll get one on the way to you. With shipping it's less than $40.

Hey Coal Train,

Thank you so much!
I will let you know if I need that part from you. I did get the news from the dealer that what's involved will cost a grand. I put a call into chysler and will see what they say. My next question to the dealer will be... "Will it cost 1000 dollars every time that bushing goes bad? If not, why not?" just interested in what they will say. Giving someone AN answer doesn't mean the issue has been addressesd! I will keep you posted.

No problem at all.

Remember, there is a recall associated with the steering on the 03 - 07 trucks. It's not specifically that part though.

What they are trying to do is sell you ALL of the steering linkage.

The recall updates the steering linkage to the same setup that is in the 07.5+ trucks.

Those are fine if there is no water / dirt / mud intrusion into the joint....like you replace them before the boots rip.

If the joint is contaminated though, you want to replace the joint.

It's the same with u-joints....if the dust cap isn't intact, there is likely contamination and you need to replace it.

It's not a matter of IF, but WHEN it'll fail.
