Default 2500 or 3500

I am looking at a RAM 2500 or 3500 for towing a 5th wheel weighting 12900. I am pulling it with a 2005 F250 with overload springs, it pulls fine very stable but the 6.0 is junk (never know wheter you will get there and back). I drove the 2500 and loved it, I can put 5000lb overload springs on it or should I get the 3500 dually? I like the around town handling of the 2500 have not driven a dually yet. Any advice?

Thanks

Weight wise, either truck will pull that trailer just fine. If you get the 2500, I'd put airbags or the overload springs in it. I've never pulled anything with a dually before, but the guys that pull 5th wheels with a dually love it. If the truck is going to be dedicated to pulling the trailer most of the time, I'd say get the dually. If the truck is going to be your daily driver as well, I'd get the 2500 and do a little suspension work.

you can also get a 3500 single rear wheel, it has the same springs in the rear as the dually, and is the only difference between the 2500 and 3500...

I've not had to pull anything with my 06 2500 ctd yet but my but my 04.5 3500 dually CTD I have pulled a lot of weight... up to 18k on 5th wheel trailer pulled it with no problem.. The dually give you a little more stability from side to side.. Now are you going to be pulling this trailer long distances and all the time?

If not then what is the point of getting a dually or a 3500
in this case I have to agree to get the 2500 12,900 lbs is not a lot for that truck just get bags as mentioned...

I bought my 2004.5 3500 I found it cheaper then i could a 2500.. Now the 2500 is my wife's truck...
