Hi all, My question concerns the 06 model cummins I have three friends here locally, that have had major problems. All three have boxes, and upgrades on them. Two of them have had engines replaced, one of them coverd under warrenty. the other one out of pocket. The one other one has ate three turbos so far. Have any of you hade similar problems? Go easy on me because of my user name Ive owned two 12 valves Ill post pics of my current one I think you all will like it.

 

well hemislave i'm good with your username and i really haven't heard a whole lot of bad news on the cummins motors til your thread. hope others chime in to get you a better perspective til then welcome aboard the df train lol

 

i got a 06 159k on it never needed anything wife drives it though. We also just bought it last month. But we also have all the service records for the truck from day one...

 

Rocket23 , Pizzo, Glad to hear you havent had any problems. I suspect in my friends case some of it could be from abuse. There trucks get flogged regularly.

 

oh Well I can say that my 2004.5 3500 4x4 DRW gets used and abused. I guess that is why my WIFE wont let me drive HER truck. Even when my truck is Broken with a lift pump failure. She don't want me beating her truck up

 

Funny how women get so possesive, and they think we are when it comes to our vehicles!

 

It works both ways I wont let her drive my truck. So Fair is Fair I guess...

 

Sounds like you buddies wanted to throw the coals to the motor and didn't do any other upgrades to keep the EGT's in check.

Crank up the power too much with a stock turbo and you're asking for melt down.

Run 45 psi of boost through that stock turbo and bark it and you're likely to find pieces in the intercooler and down the exhaust somewhere.

The saying goes......You wanna play, you gotta pay.

 

Yeah I will pass that info along tell em to keep it below 40 lbs. see if they last a little longer.

 

Anything over 32 psi on a stock turbo is just hot air.

You're outside the efficiency map once you get beyond that point.

You're not making any more power and you're not cooling the intake charge at that point.

Be careful who you listen to when guys tell you this or that is the greatest thing since sliced bread, as most of the time they've never used anything else and don't know what it's really doing.

Mess with the timing too much......bye bye head gasket

Turn the rail pressure up too high.....bye bye injectors and nozzles and watch your pistons and block get melted.

Add too much duration.....EGT's go through the roof.

Everything is a balancing act and cost is exponential to HP.
