Default 2500/3500 Towing/Payload

Well it's time to start looking at getting a bigger truck. Got ourselves a travel trailer - 30ft, 6000lbs dry, ~650lbs tongue weight (bumper pull). The old 96 1500 is pushing pretty hard with that alone. So I'm looking to go to a diesel 2500 or 3500

My understanding so far is the only difference between a 3500 and 2500 is an extra leaf in the rear. True?

What I'm looking at doing is getting a longbox so I can toss my Harley in the box ~900lbs, and still tow the trailer. I figure that would be pushing the payload limits. Would tossing in a set of airbags make this work?

I did the same thing for the same reason. Bigger trailer plus the bike so I went for the 3500 Quad cab long bed. Agree that the only difference are the springs and the TPM. Carries the bike in the back with a 32 ft trailer two slides just fine.
