I envy your knowledge about trucks Coal Train....742 RELIABLE hp - WOW! What part of Alabama you in? I have family in Dothan, Cottonwood, Enterprise, Geneva, Trinity, Montgomery, Birmingham and another little town for which I can't remember the name (near Troy State, I think that's the name of the school anyway). And my dad was born in Opp.

Troy State is right down the road from us here in Phenix City.

We're basically right in between Columbus, GA and Auburn, AL.

And now the goal is 800 - 850 RELIABLE HP to the wheels and 1000 for the track and dyno.

That's the main reason for this tear down.....getting the bottom end of the motor bulletproof. That and I need to tear the trans down to freshen it a bit.

Nothing super exciting the last couple of days....

Mostly cleaning and getting parts sent out of machining or coating.

Steam cleaned the block yesterday and got it prep'd for paint. It started raining and got too humid, so I only did a test shot on the back of the block to make sure I like the color.

The block and intake manifold cover will be the same color as the truck and the head, oil pan and front cover will be black.

It wasn't Troy State I was thinking of. And the other town I was thinking of is Midland City. You are north of Dothan. The other towns I mentioned are all west of Dothan, so a little bit further from you.

The "hidden" power in these engines is amazing. Good luck in your quest. I will watching/reading your progress.

Lotsa painting and lots cleaning.......all the parts the are getting re-used are in the parts cleaner.

Other than the painting and cleaning, 2 big boxes just showed up from Cummins.

Here's the OEM cam shaft vs a Hamilton.

Notice the cam lobes are wider and the machining is much nicer vs the stock casting.

The cam is timed to the gear via the keyway.

Here's the cam gear pressed onto the new cam.

All the Hamilton Cams are drilled and tapped for a bolt on gear and are engraved on the gear end.

Mr Big Brown truck brought me a few boxes of goodies today.....

Got all my seals, bearings, gaskets and........them big, sexy 12V rods.

Here's the CR connecting rod vs the 12V connecting rod. The 12V is on the left.

Here is why the 12V rods are so much stronger than the CR rods....they're forged and machined, not powdered and cracked.

Machined end caps rather than cracked caps.

Well, the block is all done. Just need to do a final hone and cleaning once everything is back.

All the gasket and sealing surfaces are cleaned up. I think it came out pretty damn good.

So here's the latest progress on the truck.

Been a bit slow. Lots going on in the shop and the major parts (head, pistons, crank) are out for work.

Pulled the turbos apart to refurb those. Don't really need to rebuild them, as the axial and radial play were well within spec and there is no damage to the wheels, so they're need nothing more than a cleaning.

Was sick of seeing that rust cast iron and it sure as hell wasn't going back in like that. So everything go sand blasted and ceramic coated.

Okay, batteries and cables are ordered.

Got two Optima 800 amp Yellow Tops and 240 inches of 1 gauge wire coming so the batteries can get moved to where the spare tire was.

Once those are mounted, we'll be able to get all the wiring prepped and ready for the engine to drop back in.

Got the boys all back together today.

The flat black is all the ceramic coated hot side parts.

Now I just need the head and pistons back, got new rings sets, thermostat, and a few other small miscellaneous parts on the way.

Once the engine is back together and on the stand, I'll get started on the trans.
