Default idel speed

hi to everyone im new to this , got me 99 ram acouple of weeks ago, just wanted to know something that doesnt seem right, its fitted with the 24valve cummins, when it idels it seems to fast as when you shift into gear it lurches, its had an up shift kit installed , it idels at 900rpm, at stop lights i usally put it into nuetral as i dont want to damage the trans, so my question is , is it ideling to fast , would slowing the revs help and if so how much should i drop them and how do i do it apart from this the truck runs sweet with 260000 miles , thanks for any help .
