I hooked it up to a machine today and it gave vp44 ratio code or something....For a few months I was having issues with power loss, etc. I put in a brand new lift pump and now the performance is better than ever, I just have a fuel line leak somewhere that I'm going to have a mechanic find for me....He cleared the Vp44 code and I'm gonna go Monday adn hook it back up to the machine to see if it throws the code again, because there were codes on there from things that happened months ago....

Is it possible that, since installing the lift pump, that I have excellent performance, that the vp44 code is an old one that was from when the lift pump was bad and that the vp44 MIGHT not need to be replaced?

UPDATE: P0216 Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure - I find it strange that with such high performance that I'm getting out of it that the pump is dead....could be on its way out....but in your opinion do you think I might still have some time left on it? I'm gonna go ahead and start saving for a new one.

That code is always the death code for the vp44

 

yep its the death cade, it may run for another year, it may last another hour, but it will die, sorry for the bad news, but a failing lift pump can destroy a vp44 in as little as a few miles, #1 rule with a 2nd gen 24v is to have a fuel pressure gauge, i would look into it while replacing the pump

 

Yep, its gonna die. I've been through 2 of them until I installed a FP gauge.
I have had one last 1 yr with pressures reading 5-8psi and I've had the second one die within 6 months. I have since had no issues (3 yrs ) after installing a helper pump and a FP gauge.
