Default Extended Warranty... Worth it?

So, I've had my 2006 3500 for just over a month now, and we've determined that when the dealer sold my service plan to me, we somehow missed that my coverage to 183,000km does not cover power train. Factory powertrain is covered until 160,000km, or 5 years, which expires next year in June.

I'm trying to figure out if I should 'self insure' in this case... It'll likely be our only vehicle for some time starting next year in April... I've heard that diesels, Dodges especially, don't usually crater, however, when they do, they do it well.... and it costs a lot of cash!

I'm not sure how much extra the extended powertrain is going to cost me, but my question is, does anyone think its worth it, and if so, how much would they pay "Maximum" to have another 5 years of coverage (mileage is irrelevant as it expires next year, well before the 160,000km)?

$500?
$1000?
$3000?
$5000+?

I need to make a decision before August 8th.

how many miles do you drive in a year?
how much do you tow?
do you keep up ALL your maintence?

25,000 - 30,000km/yr
15-20% towing (only about 4500lbs)
As best I know how... I follow the book.

well there are also things to consider.
if you follow the book as of for maintence you should feel comfortable escaping warranty, by also if you get it serviced by the dealer for all the maintence, once something out of the normal happens they would look back at your service history and see you have done all your work and maintence and most likely just make you pay a deductible of lets say 100$ for a 1000$ + issue
its all on what you feel comfortable doing.
diesels are meant to be driven hard and if you dont tow much or load the engine it could cause slight things in the future but so can overloading the diesel engine.
- i have no idea what 25,000 km equalizes to when i am used to going by miles

15.5 miles.

Thanks for the feedback... I highly doubt the dealer up here would do anything out of the 'good of their heart' as they have none...

I feel like I won.. well we'll call it a win anyhow. I managed to get the warranty adjusted and only pay for dealer cost of the Gold + PT warranty, which is better than I did on just the Gold Wty (paid full retail). Difference was $300 out of pocket, but now I'm covered from bumper to bumper until 180,000kms or 5 years.

The dealer may be trying to redeem themselves.

I got a call from the Business Manager today. He's refusing to submit my paperwork to Chrysler to validate the enhanced Warranty. He wants more money.

I've confirmed that the dealer cost for the warranty is $4185, which is exactly what I've paid total for the coverage. He wants another $1400!

I'm at a loss. According to the paperwork, it is only an application, and thus all he has to do is delay the submission by 30 days and they reject it.
