It is TIME.... Need help Please
The time has come to get another truck... I currently have a 1996 Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4 club cab 288,000 miles on it. I am looking for a 2500 or 3500 (SRW) diesel 4x4 crew cab with 8 ft bed. I am not sure which model years are the most reliable and would rather stay 2006 and newer. I know some of the newer models were having injector issues etc... Does anyone have any recomendations?

I recently went through a similar decision process. I wanted to buy a diesel to replace my 1500 HEMI, but was concerned about similar issues...
It seems that around 2004 (ish) to 2006 and early 2007, the 5.9's reached their prime, just in time for Dodge to mess with it. I don't know about injector issues, but I know just from an age perspective, pre-2004s were out of my list.
I stayed away from the 6.7 when I began to understand the impact the DPF had on the new engines. I bought my 2006 mainly for mileage considerations while towing. It also however had to be reliable as it is going to be our ONLY family vehicle/tank.
As far as a 'crew' cab, if you mean mega-cab, you won't find one with an 8ft box. Quad-cab and 8ft box are available up until this model year. (I think they only have the crew/mega).
I personally wanted the 5.9 with a MegaCab (quad cab was too small for our child's carseat to fit properly), which really took us down to 2006 and 2007, sans the .5's. When I found the truck in my pic/sig, I knew it was 'the one'.
Hope my banter helps.

I agree with the above. When I was looking for a diesel pickup, I wanted a Mega Cab. I have always liked them, tons of interior room, and a pretty good looking truck. I didnt want the 6.7, because I would want to put exhaust and mild chip, and it would be too costly with the 6.7. Also, I didnt want to buy a diesel with smog equipment, its taboo. Not to mention, there have been lots of report of the 6.7 having problems.
The 5.9 is the reliable of the Cummins motors. Its the "7.3" of Dodge's diesel powerplant. You can still find a clean solid 5.9 at a good price, especially since the new body style was released.
Your not going to find a mega cab with the long bed feature. I couldnt find a Mega Cab under 40k that I liked, and the quad cabs were just too small. So I went with the Ford, which has been my dream truck since they were released in 05.
Good luck, and let us know what you come up with.
