Default 2500/3500 MPG with Hemi vs 6.7 CTD? ...

Hi,

Does anyone know or have an idea of what the real world MPG for the exact same truck configured with the Cummins vs the Hemi? I'm curious as to which one would do better on fuel as a daily driver. Obviously all bets are off if towing. I know the 1500 could get 18-20 with the Hemi. Thanks!

Stock or modified?

I would wager in bone stock configurations the Hemi might edge out the 6.7 Cummins for daily driving duty.

Doing what I did to my 6.7 netted me about 5-7 mpg, so I get anywhere between 17-23 on the highway depending on how heavy my foot is. Speaking of heavy, my truck weighs 7200 pounds with me + about half a tank of fuel. The hemi should be about a thousand pounds lighter I would think.

empty a hemi and the 6.7 are identical in mpg, rear axle ratios milage in the city vers all highway are factors, a 6.7 with a 6sp eed manaul will get you higher mpg numbers as a daily driver, no 6sp manual with the hemi.

I don't like the automatic behind any hemi, this 385 hemi is a three leged dog with a 2500 automtic.

kinda poinless to drop a extra 9 grand for a ctd to use as a non tow work horse.

Hi,

More like $5,500-7,000 invoice depending on transmission etc., but I know exactly what you mean. I'll never payback the investment. I (and some others) don't always do things that make sense. We want what we want. I miss my '06 and never should have sold it. I'll have to see if I can still justify it in 6 months.
