Default 06 Dodge Ram 2500 questions...

Hey folks. I am looking to possibly trade my 06 Ram 1500 4.7 SLT in. We recently bought a small RV travel trailer. I have used the above truck to pull it and it does OK. I am careful on the weights and all, but I am worried about long term damage/wear and tear on the truck as it is not set up for towing.

With all that being said I have been eyeing an 06 Ram 2500, with the diesel. It has 55,000 miles on it and it fully loaded. Asking $30,000+, been beating him up a few days and have gotten it down to 28500, but still working it.

I know this is long, but I have never owned a diesel and would just like some info as to what to look for, any pros and cons. I know some will say personal preference and I go into this knowing that I will probably upgrade my camper eventually, so I want to be ahead of the curve next time around.

Any advice/input woulf be great. Thanks!

Cory

It's hard to beat a diesel. When compared to a gasser, a diesel has the following benefits:
SIGNIFICANTLY more power, SIGNIFICANTLY better fuel mileage, stronger/more capable, safer, higher resale value, lasts longer, and easier to mod to make WAY more power.

The only downside that I see is higher initial cost, but in my opinion, the higher initial cost is offset by the advantages listed above.

$28K seems a bit high for that truck, but lately the prices of the 5.9s have been going up. They seem to be more desirable than the current generation of diesel engine because they lack the modern emissions equipment. Consequently, they get much better fuel mileage and are easier to mod. Probably the most common issues with the 06s deal with injectors needing to be replaced, weak front ends, and AC problems. That said, I haven't had a single problem with mine, but it is stock.

Yeah, nibroc, this one pretty loaded. So it would seem to be worth the asking price. But we will see.

Alot of aftermarket stuff, too. Some maybe worth it, maybe not as I read the boards. K&N CAI, Banks High Ram, Banks exhaust, Banks Cooler System, step bars, locking tonneu cover and a performance chip...I neglected to mention that is 4x4 also.

FYI I paid 31500 for my 08 Laramie quad cab 4x4 with 45k miles. The bed was well used, but it was in great shape otherwise. And that's from a dealer to boot.
