Default New Diesel Guy Here

Hello All!

Just traded my 09' RAM 1500 Sport for a 2010 RAM 2500 Heavy Duty 4X4. Need to be able to pull a medium size gooseneck and the 1500 could barely cary and ice chest full of beer.

Since I have been driving this new beast, I cant believe I did not buy one earlier. Unbelievable truck! My question for you is simple. In regards to oil changes, what is the typical interval, what is the reccomended oil that everyone uses and what basic preventative maintenance should I be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

i have always run rotella oil, @ about 5,000 miles, 3000 if i have been really ruff with it,there isnt a whole lot of maintence that can be done other than greasing the front driveshaft, and keeping up on all the fluid in the gear boxes

I think your light duty oil change interval is 15k, severe duty 7500 miles. Check your manual. I've been doing 5000ish on mine, but when I do my next one at 60k here in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to put a bypass filter in and start using good oil so I can switch to longer intervals with total peace of mind.
