Default Shifty Situation

Just bought an 03 cummins and love this truck. I have never owned a diesel and dont really know how they act yet.

The one thing I have noticed so far is with how it shifts (automatic). When I put the pedal to the floor it goes until it has no more and stays there instead of shifting to the next gear. If I let off the pedal a little then it will grab the next gear. Only happens when I push it to the floor, shifts fine when driving normally.

Is this normal with a diesel or do I have a problem?

does it actually stop gaining speed a stay in one gear at red line? thats not right if it does, but diesels start cutting power in the higher rpm's so it may feel like its staying, if you hold it down, does it actually just stay at one speed, one rpm and never shift?

Im just getting use to the power characteristics of a diesel, only owned one for about a week know. Its shifting just fine, I just need to learn how to drive it haha. Cant seem to repeat the problem I thought I was having, shifts great under load and when just cruzin. Awesome towing power, definetly have dieselitus ever since I bought this truck!!!
