Question 2011 2500HD dodge

I am currently looking or thinking of buying a 2011 2500 to haul my camper with, I would like thoughts on weather the 6.7 I6 engine would be better than the 5.7 Hemi and what people are getting for fuel milage on the diesel. Would be towing a 29' camper, weight around 7700lbs.

If you are planning to pull your trailer through any mountians I believe you will be glad you bought the diesel. Great torque and you lots of torque when towing.

I just purchased a 2005 model dodge diesel to pull our trailer, the diesel gets great fuel mileage compaired to the GM 3/4 ton truck we trade in for the dodge.

So far I am very satisfied with my trade.

However, the newer models may not get the fuel mileage of the older 5.9 motors.

my friends new model gm diesel has to have some type product added for the emission control (urea) may not be the correct spelling, do not know if the new dodge diesel trucks use this material. might want to check as it is just another maintenance cost.

Default thanks for the come back

my buddy just bought a new silverado duramax diesel and he has to have that urea stuff, Short shelf live for that stuff so don't stock up( 3 months)has to be put in ever 1000 miles at $10.00 a gallon. The 2011 Dodge crew cab, w/ 6.7 cummings does not use the stuff, Next year they will have to put it in the 2012 dodge trucks.

Urea or def has a shelf life of one year. 3 gallons of def here in nc is roughly 18 dollars. Gotta love the flippin epa for all this crap. Sucky thing is we are havin tons of problems out of it in the heavy truck industry and not just freightliners it all heavy trucks. Hopfully the problem will go away in the summer when the temps are higher. Back to the subject though the hemi will do alright unloaded but you will be way happier overall with the cummins. Ive been hearing about guys gettin about 20 mpg on the 10 and 11 year models cant say for sure though.

I tow a 32 foot travel trailer GVW around 11K with our 09 3500 Cummins 4 door long bed 4 X 4. At 65 I get right at 10 mpg. Slow down a little and the milage goes up. Best towing has been right at 12. Not towing, runs right at 17. Power is tremendous. Set the cruise and relax. We live in the Pacific NW so mountains are always a factor. Normally top the passes, cruise on 65 and in 5th gear.

I too have been looking at getting back to diesel. Since the March madness sales from the top 3 manufactures.

I am down to GMC Duramax and The Cummins, just trying to figure out the MPGs on those Dogs. I think that is my major decision point.

I don't tow that heavy but I do like the tourqe on the diesels.

Anyone towing with a gasser should just bite the bullet and go diesel,u will not regret it.I had a hemi before and towed a smaller camper,5500lbs, and it killed the truck.MPGs just sucked big time. With the 5.9 i dont even know its back there. It is a night and day difference.Longevity is there with the diesel over the gas engine, might cost a little more to maintain but i would never go back.Diesels are made to work, period. Cost a little more at the fuel pump but IMO it is well worth it.And if fuel cost worries ya,look at it this way. What does it cost ya for a gallon of beer,or a gallon of water, lol, fuel is still pretty cheap.
