Default 98.5 24V Many Issues

Hello everyone. I am new here and am looking for other backyard gearheads to help me through what I am calling the ugly duckling project. I just bought a 98.5 3500 dually 4X4 5sp and it has been badly neglected. I have a gen 2 12v completely stock aswell and I love it. I bought the dually to pull my trailer with it and I am starting to go through it. the first issue is it has a EZD 1000 edge chip and I really dont know if its working and of course there is no manual with it. Is there a way to check this chip out?
Next it has a PAC brake and I dont think its working either. I read that they need an air supply system to work and there is none on the truck, and of course no manual. there are many other problems but I'll start with these. Oh ya the fuel supply pump is weak and I ordered a new carter replacement. Thanks

Here is a little info on the EZ: Edge EZ 1000

Here is some info on the PAC Brake

Make sure to check your fuel pressure at the VP-44 when you get your new pump, you want to see about 18psi at idle, and about 14psi at WOT.

Use something like this to test the fuel pressure.

Also, are there any aftermarket gauges in place or are you wanting to put them in? If so, here is a read about Gauge Information and why you will want them.

Others will chime in.

Ahhh.....send that carter back while you still can and order a real fuel pump. Those carter's have a tendency to not last very long. FAAS or Air Dog are both much better pumps. I'd hate to see you burn a VP44 right after putting that carter back on. It only takes a couple of minutes of low/no fuel pressure to trash the injection pump.

Thanks guys. the link to pac brake was just what I was looking for. I will be home on thursday and check into things deeper. As for the fuel pump, are these not what comes with the truck from factory and is there not a factory upgrade?

That carter pump IS THE UPGRADE. It is still junk. Many have gone out in much less time than the originals.
