Question 2000 Dodge 2500 Transmission Cooler Question

Ok, Last Saturday My Father & I Put a Jasper Transmission in his 2000 2500 w/ a 5.9L. Well, When I Drove it Home Sat. Evening it wasnt wanting to stay locked in Drive. Vanlue has about a Stop Sign & A Light to the Road I took and it was locked in when i left and got to the stop sign. When I got to the Light I heard it Unlock from Drive and i went to Accelerate and nothin happened. I Put it back in Neutral & Back to Drive and it locked and stayed in. Worked Rest of Saturday. Well, We Went to a Family Get together It was doin the Same thing. It was Low on fluid and We Put some more in. (No Leaks but on the 12th Quart). We've Heard A Lot of things about The Transmission Check ***** in the Cooler Lines. Would This have any contribution to the Not Locking In and/or the Oil Consumption Issue.
Thanks

EDIT:Resolved
