After Market winch bumpers-BALL joint KILLERS?
So I am wondering if anyone here has installed an aftermarket winch bumper on their 2500.
You know, the ones like Warn, Iron bull or Top Gun. Anything that weighs more than the stock bumper. I spoke to a guy here in California who had a heavy bumper without a winch, and it is killing his front suspension and steering components. Anyone else having this problem? Im looking at getting the TOPGUN Baja, but it's 180 Lbs.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.

i didn't go with a bumper, i put a receiver hitch on the frame and a warn xd9000i portable winch, along with a heavy duty ****** block i have 18,000 lbs pulling power, seems to work fine, just my two cents.
I highly doubt a slightly heavier bumper is going to hurt your front end. I'm willing to bet his front end was on it's way out before he put the bumper on and just coincidentally shortly after putting the bumper on his front end died.
I lug around a 1000 pound plow in the winter with no issues so I really doubt a heavier bumper (a fraction of the weight of my plow) is going to hurt you.

i have a very heavy bumper on mine, my ball joints lasted 200k and that is with running 6" lift and 35 and 38.5 tires, and pretty heavily abused, they lasted well past what a stock truck should have IMO...

Count on more dwell time during bumps and a truck that is more likely to bottom out on the bump stops. But extra wear and tear on the ball joints? Probably not.
In the heyday, KORE was building variable rate front coils that were specific for what you were doing with the truck. They had a Hemi, a diesel and a diesel with a heavy front bumper coil.
