Default on road vs. off road

hey guys once a week i get fuel at my local reservation here in ny and i always get on road fuel but every time im there i see alot of guys getting off road. from my understanding if you get caught with that on the road you can get a pretty hefty fine is that true? if not im going to start running that in my truck because its like 30 cents cheaper or something like that.

Yeah, it's considered tax evasion and it's not something you want to get busted for.

hey guys i fueled up today at my local reservation and while fueling i was reading one of the stickers on the pump and it say that for 2007 and newer vehicles on road diesel is required but is only recommended for other vehicles. so my question is to you guys since my truck is a 2003 can i get away with running offroad? i havent been able to find the law or whatever you want to call it about this so im asking you guys thanks

No matter how many times you ask the question, the answer is the same. NO.

That particular station may sell LSD (low sulfur diesel, 500 ppm sulfur content) off-road diesel fuel with red dye in it. Most sell ULSD (ultra-low sulfur diesel, iirc 15 ppm sulfur content) as both on and off-road.

The red dye will get you a hefty fine if you get caught. Some states the first offense is upwards of $1000.00

Is it worth the risk? Even if you only run one tank of red fuel, you have to flush the tank pretty well to get rid of all traces of red dye (then replace your filter too).

Edit: You CAN run the red fuel, but it's illegal and it is something they look for and they do test on the spot. The LSD fuel will clog diesel particulate filters in the 07+ trucks, which is why it's required.
