Default New to site - Considering buying a 2001 2500 quad cab

Hi everyone,
I need to get an older truck to pull 7,000 lbs max. I'm considering a 3/4 ton 5.9 cummins diesel 4x2 that I went to test drive last Sat. It's in nice condition but I am unsure whether to persue it for this reason. When I test drove it, on acceleration, the speed levels off and it won't go any faster until you let up on the gas and let it fall below 1000 rpms, then when you hit the gas again, it will go faster. Could this be signs the transmission is failing? Or do the bands just need adjusting like I read about on one of the forums. It is a 2001 and has 104,000 miles on it, trans has not been replaced. The people who own it now used it to tow horses, which is what I will use it for. My next step is to have a mechanic check it out, but if this is a tranny problem I don't think I want to do that. How much does it cost to get a tranny rebuilt or replaced?
Any suggestions?

something is wrong with this truck,

i have a 2005, 2x4 with the 5.9, you push down on the accelerator, you better have a hole to put it in, because it will get up and go, no flat spots, just full power all the way.

I just got back from a 600 mile trip, got 22.8 mpg with a 20mph head wind on 1/2 the trip.

a proper setup 2x4 dodge diesel will pull good and get you good mileage.
just keep it out of the mud holes as the motor is very heavy,

great trucks, if you get a good one.

i believe i would pass on this one or take it to a certified dodge diesel mech and let him tell you what is wrong, because something in wrong.

never buy a truck until you have driven at least three trucks like the one you are interested in. sometimes you find the first one is the one you want, but sometimes you find the one you were interested in is a piece of crap.

good hunting

note the front ends in these truck do not have grease zerks, so at around 100k many of them will need some type of front end work.

Thanks for the good advice. I wondered why it hadn't sold yet.
Appreciate it!
