Default Just blew up my 3rd transmission

I installed this transmission in October of last year and it just grenaded a few days ago. Lost all the gears except 4th, sounded like a meat grinder. Tried to ease her home in 4th but made it only a mile before it seized. Any idea's where to get a rebuilt NV4500 that will actually last ? Truck is a 96 cab & chassis, 12 valve, 330,000 miles, around 12,000lbs gvw.

You may want to look into something a bit more stout. I'm not sure why your truck is killing transmissions, but I'd also track down what's doing it. Get your driveshaft balanced. Make sure your u-joints are all good, etc. etc. etc.

U-JOINTS ?
Mine blew out at 37k, no grease in rear joints ??, .. none in there
as the diameters were wearing down allot before rear joints failed.
pulling nothing but a 2000 lb.sled trailer once a month..
WTF is the world coming to ? who's a-hole that ended zerk fittings ??
happy grinding

The problem with greasable joints is that people don't maintain their vehicles and so they don't get greased, then they fail prematurely.

Yea, but for those that DO maintenance, have no option with the sealed units. Mechanic told me that they OEM's did off with zerks as they were a point of entry for grime. Ya, BS, just want to sell parts faster. I replaced ball and u-joints WITH zerk fitted replacements all the original crap was ground dust and often you can't really tell when they're due for replacement till things start rumbling or crunching, and who knows how much associated parts suffer with them

My truck had 65k miles on it before anything failed really, driver's side axle shaft u-joint ground itself up.

Compared to what I remember of my buddy's 79 Ford that got greased all the time, I think that 65k miles was pretty good.

I'd convert it to a med duty trans if possible. like a spicer or a eaton. They can be had for the same or even less than the price of a NV4500 but they Will require a new crossmemeber fabed up.
Some are rather large and heavy.

And an SAE adapter plate (common enough though) a different flywheel/clutch assembly, and a different starter...

Believe it or not a decent built Auto might be worth a look. We have em towing 20-25k GCVW regularly with 500+rwhp... Could probably get into one for $3,000 or so. I actually just got done swapping an NV4500 out of a 94 C&C for a built 47RH. Wasn't all that bad actually.

I belive it will work, but it is still a temporary fix compared to a real truck transmission that will outlast it 3 to 1.
$3,000 is spent on a 47RH.
