Default CTD from 1995 2wd 2500 into 1994 4wd 2500

I am buying a 1995 Ram 2500 2wd CTD truck for a parts truck. I am primarily buying it for the body parts for my 1994 RAM 2500 4x4 (HD 8,800gvw). All of my previous reading has told me the tranny, transfer case and rearend are different. Mine has Dana 60s while the CTD has a Dana 70 in the rear. If its possible I may just take the leap to installing the CTD into my 4wd.

My questions are as follows:

1. Is the Dana 70 on the 2wd compatible with my 4x4 truck? Meaning can I properly mount it on my 4x4 with minimal modification?

2. Are the motor, tranny and transfer case mounts in different locations on the CTD or must I relocate them which I am not inclined to do?

3. Where do you recommend getting a wiring harness for the cab and would any of my wiring from the gasser work? The truck doesn't have that anymore, although it still runs by manually starting it.

Thanks for any replies.

Ok so, you've got a bit of a hodge podge goin on here... Your 5 speed won't work, and I'm pretty sure that even if you got the 4x4 tailhousing and output shaft for the auto (I assume auto since you say it has a D70 - 5spd trucks had D80s out back) in the 95 your T-case won't work. But I'd have to double check if there's a spline count difference between auto and manual. Your cross member would not work and your rear driveshaft more than likely won't work either (wrong length). Also, your gasser harness would be useless. If the 95 had it, which I gather it doesn't, you'd be set. But you would need to swap PCMs as well (though I'm sure you knew that).

The only good news is that the engine, radiator, intercooler, and rear axle will all bolt in as is if it has the same ratio. You just need to use the blocks from your 60 to keep your ride height. Your electric in-tank pump will also work, but you'll have to plumb in a return IIRC and remove the piston style lift pump from the side of the cummins block.

Blacksky,

Thanks for the words. I ended up scrapping the idea for many issues that you presented. My research and going to wrecking yards yielded some good info that compelled me to just finish the truck I own and buy a quad cab CTD later.

Common sense eventually overcame my desire for the 12v and I determined that I could solve my bodywork problems without buying that particular parts rig. My CTD will come eventually...
