mpg for cummins
04.5 4x4 '600' NV5600 and 4.10's I'm getting 18 as an average. I'm working on some fuel additives that are improving fuel mileage and overall engine performance. I'm getting close to drawing some conclusions. still about a month out though
anyway, if you got the 48RE and 3.73's 2wd you could see over the 20 mark 4x4 would get right at 20. the g-56 that is now offered as the manual will drop that number to about 16mpg. the auto and 4.10's will get around what I have.
however the G-56 IS NOT offered with 4.10's since the gearing of the G-56 tranny with 3.73's is very close to the NV5600 tranny with 4.10's.
if you wait just a bit more you could see a 6 speed auto being droped in behind the Cummins. that would be awsome
hope that answers some questions

2004 / 2500 / 4X4 / 48RE / SB with 3.73s.
Around town, 30/70 highway/city mix, I get around 16-17MPG at 68MPH.
On the highway, unloaded, 70MPH, running the air, I usually see 20 - 22MPG. I've seen higher but 22 is a bankable figure.
Towing an 8000# RV, I have seen as high as 14MPG and as low as 10MPG. I usually tow between 65-68MPH. I call my tow average 12MPG.
This has been over a two year observation.

2004.5 2500 4x4 QC LWB NV5600 4.10's, cold air intake, straight pipe, and a Van Aiken Box. i get about 16 -16.5 mpg and keeps improving every tank. i could likely do better if i kept my box turned down more
My neighbor traded his 03 hemi for an 05 ctd primarily for the better fuel economy. He regrets it now. He's getting about the same average mpg he was getting with his hemi and diesel is over 30 cents higher than gas where we live. He just took a 500 mile highway trip and averaged just over 14. I've read where manufacture efforts to reduce noise and emissions have hurt fuel economy.
I posted this in the milage thread, but I get around 23-24 unloaded and 14-15 towing 13,000 lbs at about 60 miles per hour. The diesel is an awsome engine, but even with better milage you won't make up the initial cost unless you drive a LOT.
I was wondering what sort of gas milleage does the cummins get I am thinking about trading up

Agree, but with weight strapped to the back end the Cummins earns its price premium every mile, yes?

I'll agree to that. and although I havent had much hooked to mine, when something was behind it I didnt notice
