Looked at a 06 2500 today got some questions south bend clutch
was hoping someone could help me out, i didnt buy it because some things i found when i was test driving it. heres the specs first: its a 2500 5.9l cummins 6 speed manual with 60k miles, 12 inch lift, 5 inch BRPE full exhaust, AFE intake, Power max CR for cummins common rail diesel, south bend double disc clutch, and alot of other stuff i dont think has anything to do with my concerns. the first thing i noticed was idleing it sounds fine to me when you start pushing in on the clutch i wouldnt say its loud but definately immediately noticable, id call it clutch chatter, they just compared it to a ducati dry clutch which i know are realy loud just idleing. i wasnt to concerned with the noise until going down the freeway at 50-60 where it started making noise in 5th and 6th. if anyone knows about south bend clutches that could help that would be nice.
another thing thats my main concern was the check engine light was on the first time i started it up, i still wanted to drive it so they moved it and there was no check engine light so it turned off on its own, i drive a 6 speed right now (in a car) so i wasnt to use to the truck being 10 times stiffer and managed to kill it at a light twice, and i was in second not low range, but after starting it the second time the check engine light popped up. can killing it and/or starting it before the wait light goes away pop a check engine light?

Its a 06 so a check engine light could be many things but i have a south bend in my 6speed and i guess i don't notice it Get something that will read for codes and see whats wrong or go to a parts store they usually do it for free
as far as the south bend clutch goes if it wasnt slipping i would say its perfectly fine. the dual disk clutches will rattle or chatter when the clutch is disengaged and the disks are loose. the stock clutch is a single disk and they have designed it to shift smoothly and quietly for driver comfort. my opinion is its a diesel truck not a Cadillac, i want something that will last. south bend clutches are among the best clutch you can get. as for the check engine light i havent heard of that happening and it doesnt happen in my 06
I appreciate the responses,I did call around and found a shop in portland that specializes and only builds cummins, the guy there was able to comfirm it is normal of an older style south bend clutch.
