Default 96 dodge cummings

I just bought a 96 dodge ram 2500 Cummings and I notice the same problem.... what did you figure out it was... when the truck is taking a little bit to get up to speed and then taking off when it hits OD...
I have some mechanic saying that it might be a torque converter....
