Default Cummins Conversion?

Just a thought here, REALLY would like a diesel truck, but i love my truck. Any idea on how much cash it would take to convert my 2006 Ram 1500 (4.7L V8) to a Cummins? Is this even possbile?

If you search this, you'll find the common concensous is no.. it's not worth it. The typical answer is sell your truck, buy a cummins ram.

A 1500 is too light of frame/suspension/etc/etc/etc to support the engine. You'll need a tranny and all the electronics to control everything too.

Not only that, the mess of getting your 1500 retagged for GVWR of a 2/3500 would be an interesting debacle. The cummins engine would likely put your truck over it's listed GVW, hence it wouldn't be legal to even go do the road with it.

I moved from an 07 1500 to my 06 3500. Haven't looked back.

mybe if you could find a little 4bt, its a 4cyl diesel i have a feelin that would fit in there. People put them in dakotas, rangers, and theres a video on youtube of a 69 camero with a 4bt in it

its not so much the suspension is to light because ive seen guys use the 1500 front end (2wd) on a 2500 CTD and go drag racing with it and because its lighter and have no problems, just looks goofy with a 5 lug pattern up front and 8 lug in the back. but like you said its the GVW and GVWR thats gonna kill it. if he wants a diesel in his 1500 go for a 4BT its basicity the same as a 12 valve from 94-98.5 just 2 less cylinders.

drag racing on a 1/2 ton suspension is much different than daily driving it. You're adding what, 800 pounds or so more than it was designed to be reliable with - hard on wheel bearings, brakes, ball joints, etc.
