Hey y'all hope someone can help

Tore into my buddies cummins yesterday to check the kdp and try to solve an oil leak, well we siliconed the timing cover and put in a new crank seal and took it for a drive and it's still dripping. We pulled it back apart again today because we wanted to try to get a better look, and the crank seal is a little cockeyed but is completely dry, so far we checked the work we did yesterday which looks good and the tappet cover and vacuum pump but neither appear to be causing the dripping.... Any insight is appreciated

 

get a flash light...? was it leaking before you tore into it?

 

Yea it was, we think it's the crank seal. Finnally got to catch it in the act with light. Any tips or tricks for getting that sucker in with the inter cooler on the truck?

 

I don't know about the 24 valve, but the gasket kit I got for my 12 valve provided a steel tool for driving the seal in (straight) from the back side of the timing cover.

 

This came with a plastic collar that stepped down and a piece that we couldn't find use for, we just used the plastic piece the best we could

 

that plastic collar is to protect the seal when you install the cover (with seal installed) over the crank.

The piece you couldn't find a use for... was it a steel ring? If so, that's what I gather is supposed to be used for driving the seal into the back of the timing cover and setting it at the right depth and straight.

 

I suppose that's what we messed up, we may take another shot at it soon....kinda blows though. We also found out its a 53 block that day
