Default 2001 24v voltage problem

hi yall. i have a 2001 24v 2wd automatic. its about 5 miles shy of 213k miles. the other day my check gauges light came on and my voltage was at 8 which im assuming was bottomed out so it may have been less. i have no power mods to this truck its stock. i got home and cut it off. then i cranked it up and looked like it was at about 12. and this cycle of driving, check gauges-no voltage, cut if off and crank up to find 12 to 14, then drive and repeat is what its doing. i went to auto parts store had my alternator and batteries tested and all passed. i was reading up on it but none of the forums seem to follow up on their findings. most i can see is the voltage regulator inside the pcm. has anyone got any thoughts on this or had the same problem and can provide a solution?

Any codes showing? My first thought is battery bad, ground bad? Start with basics. Others I'm sure will chime in with better ideas but that should get you started. Let us know how you come out. Dodges are known to have electrical gremlins but bad batteries and bad grounds are common to.

No it didn't throw any codes. It wound up being the alternator. For some reason when it was cold it would read fine on their machine but I tapped it with a hammer while running ( same as a starter acting up) and the voltage meter on the dash jumped. So I replaced and we good to go now.
