Default Clutch advice

Need advice before I start ripping into it. Twice so far I push in my clutch and shift into gear and the next time I stop the clutch stayed engaged until I shut the truck off. This happened in 2nd gear and once in reverse. Before I start pulling the transmission out and replacing the clutch should I consider anything else? This is a big job I haven`t done before so according to the Haynes manual it's gonna be fun.
