OK, i see you don't want to answer that question. How about going back to my original question? How is the fan clutch supposed to work? What triggers the clutch to engage? Should the fan turn without the clutch engaged?

Sorry, havnt been on much in the last couple days. Engine temperature and A/C will engage the fan. The fan will turn even if its not engaged but not as fast as it would engaged. There should be a code if the fan is inop but that is not always the case. A code reader can sometimes bring up previous codes, but if your engine light is on, you can to the key trick to bring up active codes. A high-end scan tool will let you look at the fan signals to determine if it is working properly. Other than that, the best way i know of is to listen for the change in sound while the truck is running, A/C will turn it on and off while at park.

I most certainly appreciate your input. I am certain that the clutch is not working, nor is the engine light on. Would you reccomend a code reader for me to purchase? I'm not an auto mechanic per say but I am a aircraft mechanic and like to fix things myself if possible.

We've used an Innova 3120 and had good results, its not the best but its a good bang for your buck. IDK if it will show sensors or not, but i ran across one the other day on another forum that i really liked, its laptop based but you can pull up just about every sensor and connection to see what is being called for and working. http://www.autoenginuity.com/product...ware.html#EI04 If i had the money, thats the one i would get. Look through the example pics and you will see what i mean.
