Hi Guys,

Yesterday was cruising down the hiway doing 65 in 5th gear. I have an 04 2500 4x4 5 speed manual.
All of a sudden there was like a surge then a hesitation and bam, 5th gear was gone! I down shifted to 4th and it ran fine, shifted back to 5th and it acts like the truck is in neutral. There is NO 5th gear engagement.

I was actually on my way home from a trip and had to drive all the way home in 4th. I never went over 55 (got great gas mileage).

The tranny is not making any noise and it ran fine except for 5th gear.

Any ideas? Is this serious? Something come loose? This ever happen to anybody else?

Yep, i was about to say it must be a NV4500.

 

If this is a known issue with this tranny why aren't we notified about it?? To me this is BS! This is something they should have told us to come in and get checked or fixed before this happens. My truck only has 61k on it, but it is 8 yrs old.

Strangely this issue has been going on for a long long time, i learned about it when i bought a 96 chevy with a 6.5td and nv4500 that never liked to go into 5th.

 

Thats rough man, at least theres a fix for it.
