Turbo upgrade recommendations, please help!
hey guys my stock turbo is going bad in my 98.5 truck. i want to get the right turbo. but not sure which one to commit to. I have a uprgraded fuel system and intake and edge w/attitude programmer, stock injectors for now, and dont have the money to put in head studs or o-ring my heads right now. i pull 10k lbs trailer a couple days a week and want a turbo that will give me plenty of power and lower egt's. there are just so many turbos my head hurts from doing all this research alone. so any help will be greatly apprecitated!
i am going to be putting in injectors in the near future but also dont know what hp injectors will work best, i just got the bd super b turbo. now i want alot of power but also dont want to push my motor due to having 220k miles. i tow a 10k trailer once a week at minimum, what injectors will be the best choice?
lol 220k is nothing for your motor...its just broken in now!
My motor has 225k on it and you can see what I'm pushing to it in my sig.
these motors will easily go 1 million+ miles... there is a couple vp44 trucks out there right now with 1.3million miles on them.. cummins is one of the toughest motors your ever going to own...they can handle up to 800hp without having to change anything internally other than valve springs, push rods, and head studs...(and possibly o-rings in the head) the rotating assembly is very stout and can take extreme conditions and quite a bit of abuse and work right through it. unlike the V8 diesels and gas engines, the cummins was built for heavy equipment, marine use, etc...it was not originally designed to be a pickup truck engine. they just detuned a heavy equipment engine to meet emission standards and reduce the power enough to not destroy the weak dodge transmissions they were putting behind them...
super b is a good turbo...you should be able to get away with 100-125hp injectors and not get too hot. if you want more power than that you can always go to 7x.010 - 7x.012 injectors and put a S472 or S475 under that super B for a killer twin kit. you will definitely need head studs at that point, but it will still tow your trailer no sweat and keep the EGT's down nice and cool.

1350 is warm but as long as you don't sustain those temps for long periods you will be fine...
1200 is safe and can run there all day
1400+ is where I would worry.. for a few seconds its fine, but for more than a minute can cause parts to melt and fail.

he has a stock vp44 truck...its not going to spool a 64 or 66. he would need 200hp+ injectors for that, and those turbos aren't good for towing on a VP truck. way too smokey.
62/71/14 with some 7x.010 injectors would make a decent single setup.
or stock over S472 twin setup with 7x.010 (150hp) or 7x.011 (175hp)injectors...
S357 over S475 would be a good setup with 7x.012 injectors (200hp)
