Default 2012 gooseneck questions please

Hey all~

I have a 2012 crew cab short box 6.7 2500 and just had a B&W ball installed in the bed last week and am really concerned about how far forward it is in the box. I know that having a short box pickup is the reason the ball sits so close to the cab but everywhere you look you see short box rams pulling horse trailers, campers and gooseneck trailers so there must be something I am missing here......

Questions,

1) What have you guys done to make your gooseneck ball more usable when pulling trailers?

2) Do you have issues with the trailer front being to close to the cab? If so how did you solve the issue?

I did try to do a search but did not come up with much so I hope this hasn't already been beat to death... I cannot believe I am the only one with this concern???

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Taks Care,

JT

the ball should be over the axle and you should be good to go

Go to any RV or trailer sales place and they will have or can order a gooseneck adapter that allows the trailer to sit back 1.5" to at least 9" from the hitch to allow for more room.

Thanks for the advice guys!

I ended up getting the 4" offset ball from B&W and it worked pretty good for the flatbed goose neck I pulled last weekend hauling hay. However I also have the "extend-a-goose" on the horse trailer and am not sure about using them in combination.... I put the goose neck extension on so i could pull the horse trailer with my 06 Chevy short box and it worked great. But the new 2500 Ram will need both accessories used in conjunction to set the trailer where I need it to so I do not have issues with clearance.

Any further thoughts on using both attachments at the same time?

Was the hitch installed directly above the axle?

Just going from memory but the cab-to-axle dimension is about 3"-4" longer on the Chev. Doesn't seem like much but having the 5'er that much closer to the cab window really makes a difference for me. Now if your ball is a couple inches further forward than it should be, I can understand your concern.
