Default is urea better than DPF?

Ford and Gm don't offer man transmissons, so by default the 6.7 ctd with a 6sp is my choice, but the DPF on the ex system and EgR issues promt me to ask if urea burners on the Ford and duramax are a better way of controling emmisons, the complexity of V8 deisels scares me.

Both GM and Ford use urea in addition to DPF and EGR. When Dodge goes to urea for 2013, they will also use it in addition to the DPF and EGR.

You have no choice, ALL trucks since January 2007 have a DPF and some sort of EGR control (EGR control has been used in certain areas dating to the 12v days). Likewise, after roughly January 2013 (it's widely believed Dodge will use urea then) that all will have a DPF/EGR/urea injection

Basically you have until the end of the year and early into next to pick up a 2012 Dodge that doesn't have urea injection, or wait for the 2013 and have the (hopeful) benefits of better mileage and fewer DPF regens and less EGR.

Urea injection allows a bit more flexibility in what the manufacturers can do in terms of tuning and emissions

Any idea on the hp power numbers and torque on a stock 6.7 vers the 5.9 CTD?

Im not so sure going for the 6.7 just to get a man transmison is going to offset my investment over my reg cab hemi, vers a 1500 crew cab.

I don't have use for a work truck, were as a crew cab to haul all the toys and a work trailer will over accomplish over a 1500 crew cab truck, I just hate automatics!

My new CTD will be a weekend warrior truck, perhaps the odd short drive to work, or a highway cruse, any one have milage numbers for a 6.7 with a 6sp man and 373 ltd slip?

Considering this truck will inactive and I have heard the 6.7 needs to abused to clean out the dpf, is the 6.7 practical for a weekend warrior!!

A lot is depending on the dealers value of my trade and the ability to factery order, chrysler credit ( TD canada trust) as for ford and the duramax, I don't want the complexity of a V/8 diesel engine and urea tanks...

Factory ratings are 325/610 for the late 5.9, 350/610 for a 6.7/manual (650-800trq for automatics) Both will dyno in the 280ish range at the tires (the 5.9 and 6.7).

I'm confused where the 1500 discussion came from?

A 6.7 doesn't need to be "abused" but short little trips in town aren't really it's forte; used as a weekend warrior, if it's towing something or going on road trips, it'll be just fine. They have far fewer issues now than when they first came out.

Mileage numbers will vary, but don't expect much more than maybe 17ish tops on the highway and 13ish in town.

My hemi is all ready getting identical milage numbers, I might save on inital flue costs as diesel is cheaper than midgrade and a 6cy should use less flue than a 8 cy even with the larger displacement, I don't plan on out towing my hemi 2500 so factery hp numbers in comparison to ford or Gm are not important.

The new emissions laden engines don't get the good mileage the older less emissions laden engines did.

So I go spend 50 grand on a new truck that gets less Mpg than the last gen, needs more cubic in to conpete with a stock 5.9 and has potential for more maintance on a emisson system mandated by the federal goverment, all because I want a full size truck with a 6sp man trans......

Makes me think thiers a plot at play here to force consumers of mediium duty trucks to stay with gas powerd egines, as pay back for owning a diesel I going to a verry long time ....

Thank the EPA. Basically, unless you are going to need the hauling capacity of the diesel, you're better off getting a gas truck - especially if you have emissions testing.

Higher initial investment, higher operating costs, higher (in some areas) fuel costs, higher insurance costs (higher replacement value, etc), higher maintenance costs, blah blah blah.

If you want the diesel as a toy, you basically have to figure it's going to cost more for playtime.

New 2013 Ram CTD are going to have urea. I got the hard sell to buy a 2012 from a dodge dealer in Edmonton AB to hurry on up and factery order my 2012.

Im pretty sure Im done with the concept of owning a new CTD 6.7 Ram, every 40,000 km you have to drop 600.00 to change out the filter in the dpf to keep up the warenty, (dodge salesperson) so even thow this is most likely a do it your self thing, as per the flue filter, its just more maintance I don't need.
