Default 2nd A/C compressor?

If a Cummins is in an ambulance don't they have two compressors for and a/c in the back? Is there a vehicle with a cummins that has a rear a/c unit?

I want to add a/c to a camper shell in the back of the truck for my dogs. I do not know if there is a bigger compressor or a set-up for two compressors. But I want to be able to turn the other one off and I do not want to mess up my truck's a/c. If I can find a bracket with a compressor and a way to run a belt to it then I can make it work.

its not that easy...your best bet is to find an electric unit for a camper that sits on top, then add either a PTO or pully driven generator to generate enough electricity to run it.

you would have to plumb and fully insulate aluminum hoses the whole run to a small radiator inside a box in the camper, hook a fan and vent up to it, and then plumb and run a radiator on the other side for the hot side, as well as a dryer/filter, etc...and it would take a LOT of refrigerant to charge a system with that long of a run.

and believe me the lines MUST be insulated or that refrigerant will get warm again by the time it reaches the radiator

running an electric/portable unit will be far simpler... just get a belt driven under hood generator that can output like 1000watts or so...oughta be enough to run a small AC

I don't wan't a generator for someone to steal. I know how to run lines. I just wish there was a Dodge SUV with a rear A/C I could go take off and have all the controls. I do not have to get a fan and all that because I can just take a complete rear unit off of an SUV or van at a junk yard. I know how to make a new cover. I am thinking the older rear a/c units that had the controls on them. I can then just open the sliding window and turn it on. I can even just go get a compressor. The only problem is the bracket and the belt. I doubt the compressor is big enought to run two units. Of course I can just tap into the colant to run a heater.

I guess I will contact a company that makes ambulances and ask what they would do.

I found Freightliner makes an ambulance with a Cummins. If it is just a change of a compressor that will be easy. I did find an electric a/c that is 12v. I bet it is expensive.

On the Durango was the rear a/c controled from the front or the rear? If controlled from the front do you think I could just swap the controls out? Or would it take some dash rebuilding? I plan to rebuild the dash to hold a double din radio anyways. When I get done it will all look stock.

Maybe the compressors will just swap out, the controls fit and this be simple. But I doubt it. I will have to weld up a metal box for the bed to protect the a/c for when I use the bed. But that will go in the 2nd generation section. For now I will focus on the engine part.

I will make a trip to the junkyard and see if I can find one to look at.

I checked on the Durango and there was just a split in the freon lines. So you turned the a/c on and the either turned the rear fan on or did not but the freon went to both when it was on. I can just wire the switch up under my seat or where ever.

This does not seem to be cummins thing so I will leave this alone. Thanks for the help.
